35 Week Bumpdate!
Today I am 35 Weeks & 4 days. I had a scare on Saturday August 29th. Every Saturday is the start of a new week in gestation for me. I sat up in bed to get ready to walk to the restroom. All of the sudden I feel this sharp pain in my pelvic region and that was it. I made it the few steps to the bathroom in the dark at 5 am. After getting out from the bathroom I noticed another sharp pain coming on!
As I got back in bed I began to feel them a little stronger and more frequently. I didn’t know what to think but after having had my first NST appointment with this pregnancy, where they explained to me when I was having contractions. They told me that if they were ever really close together to come in to be seen. That was the only thing I could think about as I laid there feeling the slight discomfort every 2-6 minutes. It’s this strange tightening feeling that I noticed on the very outer edges of my pelvis.
I tried to just get comfortable and stay calm, but I couldn’t really focus so I pulled out my phone and created a note for every time I felt it. I also tried to count the time in between some of them. By this time I mentioned to my husband that I was having contractions and he was the one who suggested timing them. This is not my first rodeo but he is definitely the calm of the storm for me. So that’s what I continued to do was just write down the time I felt the contractions and lay there trying to remain calm.
I wasn’t expecting to go into labor at 35 weeks. So I started doing a little reading online about when you should go into the hospital if you think you’re starting labor. When I had my first baby it was also unexpected. My water ruptured at 37 1/2 weeks and I labored for 3 days and then my daughter was born at what would have been 38 weeks gestation. So I am a bit worried thinking about how I can technically give birth any day or week now.
Long story short the Braxton-Hicks contractions stopped at around 6:55 am and had already been spacing far apart. I was given some advice by a nurse to drink water and relax and try changing positions. After drinking water and changing the position I was laying in, I noticed the decrease in my contractions and eventually fell asleep again. I was in this sitting up position when I finally fell back asleep. This is my body’s way of letting me know that my second baby girl will be here very soon.
My pregnancy is considered high risk for two reasons, one being that I am a LADA Type One Diabetic, and two being that I have uterus didelphys. Luckily this was just a false alarm and a strong case of Braxton-Hicks contractions but, wow was I practically thinking here I am going to give birth on this day! Today is September 1st so I am now 35 Weeks + 4 Days! Time is moving very quickly now.
