36 Weeks + 2 Days

This morning I woke up at 6:37am and I began setting up for my milk bath photo shoot! I had previously removed everything from the bathtub in preparation for cleaning. All that was left to do was to clean the tub, grab the milk from the market, and I also sent my husband to look for a rubber stopper for the tub since we didnā€™t have one. I scrubbed the tub using that Dollar Tree Broom that I mentioned here, and was able to get the tub clean in about 10 min. I used vinegar cleaner and this other cleaner diluted with water to achieve a good clean on the tub and surrounding tub tiles.

Iā€™ll be honest our bathroom is dated but thereā€™s something about that pink 70ā€™s style tile that I like. I knew that this guest bathroom of ours gets the best lighting early in the morning so I had gotten the flowers the previous day at around 4-5 pm. Weā€™re currently having a heat wave this Labor Day weekend, so I was actually worried about the flowers wilting šŸ„€. What I ended up doing was placing a trash bag into a bucket and filling it with cold water from my refrigeratorā€™s built in pitcher system. I was able to purchse the flowers šŸ’ close to my home which was nice because it was super hot yesterday and I did not want to be driving around for hours looking around.

I picked a mixture of florals based on what was available at this time of year. The colors were also pretty limited, but I had an idea for which colors I thought went well together. When I brought the bucket inside I kept the flowers in the cool water and added a bit more water just in case. I had also had the central AC running at 75-78 degrees throughout the day. I had also made a Pinterest board of some poses and possible floral arrangements that I might want to use. This is super helpful when planning a shoot, whether you are the photographer or the subject I think itā€™s always safe to have some ideas handy. I had known for a while that I wanted to do a milk bath maternity shoot but I wasnā€™t really sure how itā€™d turn out since I was going to ask my husband to take the photos.

My husband is a really fast leaner but when you have an eye for design you expect a certain outcome from things. I was also having trouble because I wasnā€™t able to see myself, I didnā€™t know how I looked while posing and some of his feedback wasnā€™t as helpful in terms of me understand what I needed to do. A lot of this was last min because he needed to pull my dress from the garage and then plus the last min purchases that were made this morning. I would suggest to have everything absolutely everything ready the day before as much as possible. I stepped into the tub of warm water with the milk already poured in and had him arrange the flowers around me.

The tub is not the best place to be trying to sit up in with a belly, so I also would have to ask him to rearrange the flowers from time to time as they moved around from me changing poses. Iā€™m hoping we got some really nice photos but I will have to see once I transfer them to the computer to touch up. Overall this was a fun experience, however I do suggest being better prepared. A lot of the things I had my husband run out for this morning could have already been ready at the house. Unfortunately my husband is always busy and sometimes comes home late so I canā€™t really do or say much but in the end I think it all worked out!
